About The Crackington Cider Company

Producers of artisan, small batch,  award winning Cornish ciders

Home of the Taste of the West Champion Cider for 2022.

Jonathon and Samantha started the Crackington Cider Co. from their home in Cornwall in 2011, located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, less than a mile from Crackington Haven, with its beautiful beach, and welcoming cafes and pub.

It all started with a gift of 30 cider apple trees from Jon's Dad, Eddie.   The orchard now has over 1100 cider apple trees.  Jon has focused on the conservation of Cornish and vintage quality West Country cider apples, many of which he grafted from cuttings due to their rarity. To ensure a perfect balance of sweet, bittersweet, sharp and bitter sharp apples, 30 varieties of cider apples are grown including Rattler, Lord of the Isles, Captain Broad, Collogett Pippin and Dabinett.  Apples are pressed, fermented and bottled in the Cidery..  The ciders are slow matured in stainless steel fermentation vats for 9-12 months to develop a full clean character, with speciality ciders such as our sparkling Tremayna and award winning barrel aged ciders aged for at least a further 9 months.   All of our ciders are vegan and gluten free.

We care deeply about the environment and do not use any pesticides on the orchard.  We manage the grass in the orchard to encourage wild flowers, bees and butterflies by only mowing twice a year.  This has also had a positive impact on the numbers and varieties of birds in the orchard.

Visit our onsite cider shop and outside tasting bar, where you are most welcome to come and sample our 'Taste of the West' award-winning ciders and explore the Cidery.

Speciality Cornish Ciders

Tremayna, Méthode Traditionnelle

A naturally sparkling vintage brut cider of exceptional quality.  Champagne yeast creates a secondary fermentation in the bottle.  Produced in exactly the same manner as a Champagne wine and two years in the making.

Farmhouse Cider Flagon

A cloudy bittersweet cider bottled slightly earlier than our other ciders. The tannin haze adds a bite to the finish. Medium in balance. Immensely drinkable. Serve chilled. Shake for a more tannic experience. Available in 1 litre flagons and 3 litre bag in boxes.

Mulled Cider Flagon

A hand crafted mulled cider pressed from vintage quality West Country cider apples and blended with cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, cloves and orange. Available in a 1 litre flagon. Serve hot.

Whisky Barrel Cider Flagon

A premium medium dry still cider pressed from vintage quality West Country cider apples. Matured in oak whisky barrels to develop a full character with a hints of smoke,
vanilla and whisky. Available in a 1 litre flagons. ABV 8.4%.

Vintage Cider

Our driest cider is a slow matured premium cider pressed from vintage quality West Country cider apples.  Crisp green apple and a hint of tartness reminiscent of dry white wine.  This cider was showcased by in Modern British Cider by Gabe Cook.  Gabe described it as "the epitome of how British cider can be presented and drunk like a still table wine. Perfectly branded...it has the structure and composition of an orange wine - gently spicy, satisfying...with a savoury finish.  This is sensational." This is a live cider that will continue to improve with age but is ready to be drunk now.  Chill exceedingly well.  Serve in wine glasses as a lower alcohol alternative to wine.  Available in 750ml wine bottles. ABV 8.2%

Bag in Boxes

Ciders are available in bag in boxes.  These are convenient and great for parties.  After opening they maintain the quality of the cider as air is excluded and can therefore be kept in the fridge for a couple of weeks.  The prices below include delivery to mainland UK. Great savings are available on these prices if you visit the cider shop on site.

Visit the Cidery and Cider Shop

Cider Tastings

During the Summer you can enjoy a tasting of our delicious, award winning ciders at the Black Cat Shop and Tasting Bar.

You are also welcome to visit the adjacent cidery, where you can see our cider making equipment: the heart of where everything happens.

During the winter there is a lot to do in the cidery including bottling ciders that have been slow fermenting for the past year, racking off the ciders that were pressed in the autumn and crafting our speciality ciders such as our mulled cider, champagne style (Méthode Traditionnelle) cider and rum and whiskey barrel aged ciders.

Winter and early Spring is also when our 1100 cider apple trees in the orchard have to be pruned.  Each one is pruned by hand to ensure a healthy open framework of branches to reduce disease and limit wind damage as well as to help ensure a good crop of fruit.

In summer we are still busy bottling and labelling our ciders, delivering ciders to retail outlets.  Our ciders are available locally in farm shops such as the Boscastle Farm shop and the Little Pig at Kilkhampton, in delicatessens such as Bellinis in Bude and Rick Stein's Deli in Padstow, as well as country stores at Wainhouse, Boscastle, Crackington Institute and Tintagel .  We also deliver to a number of pubs and hotels including The Coombe Barton at Crackington, The Barrel at Bude and The Bush at Morwenstow.   Throughout the year we also attend events and fayres.  We are at the Bude Artisan Market (Wednesdays from March to October and first and third Saturday of the month) and the Farmers Market at Crackington Institute (3rd Sunday of the month).

Apple Harvest starts in September and finishes in late November, depending on the apple variety.  We pick by hand.  The autumn is when the apples are pressed, fermentation begins and the cycle starts again.

Black Cat Tasting Bar and Shop

The Black Cat Tasting Bar and Shop is open from May to October from when you can come and sample our delicious, award winning ciders in the lovely grounds of Tremayna Farm and Orchards.

The Black Cat Cider Bar is 100% hand crafted: Just like our ciders! We hand built the Black Cat Cider Bar from reclaimed building materials left over from fencing the orchard, re-roofing our long barn, replacing our wood store and other building projects.   The bar was named, with affection, after our lovely black farm cats Maurice and Dave, who like to sit at the bar and watch the world go by (or shelter from the rain).  We now have a stripy cat to match our stripy ciders (his name is Colin).

Hope to see you for a tasting at the Black Cat Cider Bar soon.
